This talk will include a special interview with her son, i.d.9:16 director Pete Burak, and will examine her journey with the Lord through her experiences of joy as she sought to bring others to Christ, and of sorrow, especially in the death of her husband of nearly 40 years.

Tubing the Ottertail

Escape the summer heat. Relax and float the Ottertail.

Agenda:

  • 8:30 am Mass at Sts. Anne & Joachim (Confession available beginning at 8:00)

  • 9:15 am Depart Sts. A&J parking lot for Charlie’s near Detroit Lakes.

  • Eat out in Detroit Lakes after tubing and before returning to Fargo

  • Expect to return to Fargo mid-afternoon or early evening.

Have a chill Saturday with other young adults, escaping the heat with tubing, swimming, and great conversation!

Cost is $10, which allows us to ride the approximately two-hour route twice. Modest swimwear (both men and women—consider bringing a tank top/cover-up), shoes (ones you can wear in the river, perhaps), towel; sunscreen; maybe bug spray. Snacks, drinks (not glass but may be alcoholic provided you are following applicable laws), cooler if you’d like (but only if you won’t be devastated if it were to end up at the bottom of the river).

We’ll go out to eat in Detroit Lakes before coming back to Fargo. Return time will be dependent on water speed, whether we ride the river both times or just once, and time at the restaurant.

Hope to see you there!

In this talk, Joey McCoy, Assistant Director of i.d. 9:16, will examine what Jesus and the authors of the New Testament actually say about sexual sin and its implications for our salvation. Each of us is invited to accept God's beautiful plan for sexuality, and yet there are consequences worth exploring for refusing this invitation. Through concrete examples from God's word, Joey will explore God's inexhaustible mercy while looking at the full picture in light of salvation.

At the center of every human heart, there is an ache to know and be known, to love and be loved, to give and to receive. For persons experiencing romantic desires for the same sex, choosing to live by a Christian sexual ethic is a place of both confusion and commitment. If desire is off-kilter, where do we direct it? Anna Carter of Eden invitation will examine four potential stumbling blocks for same-sex attracted Christians, as well as opportunities for grace and resurrected life in the midst of our longings.

"Sexual Authenticity: Bearing the Image, Part II"

Join us for Mass, supper, a live-streamed talk, and time for fellowship!

This month’s Disciples’ Night will include a supply drive for the Dorothy Day House.

Agenda:

  • 6:00 Mass at Nativity (Confession available beginning at 5:40)

  • 6:30 Dinner

  • 7:00 John Bishop: "Sexual Authenticity" via live-stream

  • 7:45 Discussion and social time

We live in a throw-away society. Fast food and plastic plates — our culture is full of the cheap and easy, and this mentality bleeds into our sexuality. America is obsessed with sexual counterfeits. From the college hook-up culture to pornography to strip clubs and more, we see fake sex everywhere. All of us must ask ourselves: Do we really want counterfeit sex, or do we want something real? At the heart of the Church’s teaching on chastity is an encouragement to turn away from fake sex and choose the real thing.  In other words, the Church encourages “Sexual Authenticity.” In this talk, John Bishop will discuss how we live in freedom, applying human anthropology to various important topics surrounding chastity.

This month’s Disciples’ Night will also include a supply drive for the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in Moorhead. Please feel free to bring a contribution-clean blankets, new underwear, and new socks are top priorities. After that: white T-shirts, powdered laundry soap, dish soap, hygiene items (i.e. shampoo-conditioner, men's body wash, deodorant, shaving cream/razors), and gift cards (Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, Hornbacher's) would be welcomed! The Dorothy Day House of Hospitality in Moorhead serves the hungry and homeless in our area. Bring your items to donate to the February Disciples' Night meeting, and they will be delivered for you! "Wonder, Desire, and Longing: Bearing the Image, Part I"

Join us for Mass, supper, a live-streamed talk, and time for fellowship!

This month’s Disciples’ Night is a potluck and will also include a supply drive for the Dorothy Day House.

Agenda:

  • 6:00 Mass at Nativity (Confession available beginning at 5:40)

  • 6:30 Dinner: Chili cook-off

  • 7:00 Fr. Ryan Adorjan: "Wonder, Desire, and Longing" via live-stream

  • 7:45 Discussion and social time

In part I of a three-part Theology of the Body series, Fr. Ryan will explore the basic questions of the human heart—Who am I? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?—through the lens of wonder and human desire. We yearn for something greater than ourselves to take us outside of ourselves and into relationship and authentic communion with another—with creation, with other people, and ultimately with God. Fr. Ryan will employ the writing and thought of C.S. Lewis, Father Peter Cameron, and Father Luigi Giussani.

Father Ryan Adorjan is a priest for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet-in-Illinois and a frequent speaker in his home diocese and around the country.. He is the parochial vicar of the Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus and Sacred Heart parish, both in Joliet.

Dinner this month will be the Chili cook-off! Sign up to bring something to share here: https://perfectpotluck.com/meals.php?t=MXCY1416&v=4a7d1ed414

“Holy Discontent”

Join us for this special one-day retreat, led by i.d.9:16 staff!

This Summit will empower young adults to receive the “more” that God desperately wants to give us. We will dive into Christ’s wounded heart & provide practical training to identify our personal holy discontent and a clearer vision of His mission for us.

This SUMMIT will be characterized by a reckless openness to the action and power of the Holy Spirit. It will include Mass with Bishop Folda, talks, time for prayer, reflection, and fellowship. Confession will be available.

Hope to see you there!

"To Walk by the Spirit"

Join us for Mass, supper, a live-streamed speaker, and time for fellowship!

Please note that this month's Disciples' Night will be held at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 5201 Bishops Blvd, Fargo, ND 58104.

Agenda:

  • 6:00 Mass at the Pastoral Center

  • 6:30 Supper (Free-will offering)

  • 7:00 Speaker Patrick Ries via live stream

  • 7:45 Discussion and fellowship

Without the power of Holy Spirit in our lives, we can't live out the Great Commission, making disciples of all nations. Patrick will help us understand and integrate the Holy Spirit into our daily lives. How do we walk each and every day flowing in the charisms, anointing, and freedom the Holy Spirit provides? Why is this important for our ability to bring the healing, liberating, and life-giving Gospel to others? St. Paul VI called the Holy Spirit the "principal agent of evangelization," but is He the driving force of our missionary activity?

Patrick is the Director of Encounter Ministries and host of the EWTN globally syndicated Encounter Radio, and speaks at conferences internationally. He has a passion and drive to empower Catholics to walk in the power and love of the Holy Spirit and carries a strong heart for seeing Christian unity manifest.

Sr. Miriam James Heidland, S.O.L.T., is a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno, where she played volleyball on a scholarship and majored in communications, hoping to work for ESPN or another news organization. She lived a typical college life of parties, sports, and freedom, and seemed to have it all. In reality, her life was empty and broken. Sr. Miriam’s life began to transform as she realized Jesus was real and that he was the great love that her heart desired.

In 1998, she entered the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, a missionary community that serves globally. Sr. Miriam has served at missions in Rome, North Dakota, Seattle, and Texas. She is the author of the book "Loved as I Am," and tweets at the handle @onegroovynun.  She will share more details of her powerful conversion story with us at this Disciples' Night!
